Product development strategy.
Each creative company should have a unique method or at least adopted on development of a product. Some companies jump into creation of a product from the clients’ brief relying on information provided in the brief and personal experience in delivering the results.
What do we do if we haven’t got a brief or a method in place and we don’t want to adopt the existing method on developing a product?
It is very challenging and we think it is unrealistic to start product development without strategy on how we are going to tackle this task at the beginning. That is why we are planning to experiment on developing the method. We hope we will see the benefits of this exercise when the product is sold.
What do we know?
We know that there is a design thinking process provided by Corrine, which we are going to use as our framework to build a strategy for the product development.
1. Problem understanding (empathy, observation, research)
2. Problem selecting (framing the issue, putting the situation in context, looking for problem-solution pairs, identifying patterns, systems analysis)
3. Solution understanding (looking back at what you’ve done so far, what is the need that needs fulfilled? What will determine this project being successful? Sketching and visualising to communicate solutions.)
4. Solution selecting (Make your ideas tangible and prototype as many as you can quickly. Then build on the best ideas.)
